Philip James Photography approached iD to help them develop a brand, logo and website which reflects the company values, will allow room for growth and be apt for the wedding photography market.
Branding and Logo Design
We started the process by looking at the target market and how Philip wanted to fit into it and still maintain his own personality. He wanted to appeal to females looking for wedding photographers without his branding or imagery being too feminine, cute or fluffy. We decided that a strong teal colour would work well with softer grey and bold greys and created logos which will remain current, have elegance but are strong and carry impact.
Phil wanted a timeless, bold style but to make sure it appealed to his target market we chose a serif font which adds a delicate edge to a classic look.
The website needed to be responsive and fast, having encountered problems before with speed issues it was of paramount importance that the website loaded quickly with large portfolio pictures. Phil wanted the homepage to have maximum impact but still tell a piece of the story, so iD created a large fullscreen effect slider where the latest images could be displayed yet when the user scrolled down it would show a brief introduction and links to his latest work.
The portfolio page was created to display a range of images capturing moments while iD designed the blog portfolio posts to allow each individual wedding to be documented in a beautiful way, using around 60 – 80 images of the day and tell a bit of a background story. We wanted to make each post unique so at the top of each page it displays a full width image of the happy couple.
As weddings are such a personal and emotive experience it was important for the website design to contain as much of Phil’s personality as possible so iD created areas for personal images with handwritten overlays. The effect I think creates a nice balance between personal and professional.
Philip James Photography have also commissioned iD to help them stay on top of their website updates and maintenance, uploading images and posts for him. SEO for wedding photography is a tough cookie to crack and as the site and domain are fairly new it is going to take a lot of work and a fair bit of time before we see any major improvements but watch this space!
